Experiencing the Artistic Side of Mineola

Dragonfly Art Studio
Since 1990, Sophie and Melissa have been creating unique works of art in stained glass and mosaic tile.

Melissa Brown and her mother, Sophie Crowson are two of the nicest, most genuine, and fun ladies you could ever hope to meet in Mineola. On top of that, they’re very talented artists as well!

Since 1990, Sophie and Melissa have been creating unique works of art in stained glass and mosaic tile. When they outgrew their workshop in Melissa’s home in 2004, the two women opened Dragonfly Art Studio in downtown Mineola on North Johnson Street, just across from the Lake Country Playhouse & Select Theater.

Featured in their store are a variety of stunningly beautiful stained glass dragonflies and other living creatures, unique mobiles and wind chimes, glass lettering, stained glass light boxes, and most notably, their “Hallelujah Ladies”—poignant, yet hopeful and artful reminders that life is worth celebrating.

Melissa and Sophie also offer custom creations. They designed and produced a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind mosaic roadrunner for Roadrunner Acres to help Judy and Kent celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary last year. It now has a place of honor on the dining room wall, where Kent and Judy can admire and appreciate it every day.

When asked what her favorite part of the business was, Sophie said, “It’s getting to come up with something new, unique, and one-of-a-kind. There are no rules in glass art, and that’s the beauty of it.” Melissa added, “And I get to work with my mom. What more could I ask for?”
